WIDEBAND SEMICONDUCTOR SHIPS FIRST HIGH TEMPERATURE MODEM
Mountain View, CA, Jan. 3, 2007

Wideband Semiconductor, Inc, industry  leader in advanced data communications devices. recently shipped its first modem suited for high-temperature industrial applications.  The device consists of a full-duplex QAM/PSK modem core, hosted on Actel™ APA1000 or APA600 family of FPGAs, designed for high-temperature, interference-intensive atmosphere.  The modem is fully digital requiring only the addition of an ADC for the demodulator, a DAC for the modulator and an additional DAC for the AGC control. It is ideally suited for instrument heads and data acquisition packages hosted in hostile or adverse industrial environments.

The modulator features pre-programmable Nyquist coefficients and a digital up-converter.  An FEC block prior to the modulator provides scrambling, Reed Solomon encoding and byte to symbol mapping.

The demodulator features a digital down-converter, pre-programmable Nyquist coefficients, digital re-sampling for timing acquisition, a 32-tap TDE equalizer with coefficient updates every symbol and digital carrier recovery with programmable modulation indices.  An FEC block after the demodulator provides symbol to byte conversion, Reed Solomon decoding and descrambling.

The modem core has been designed so that additional features can be added to the upon customer request.

Actel is a trademark of Actel, Inc.
